Request for American Lamb Board Nominees

Submitted March, 2011

NLFA is one of the national organizations certified to submit nominations to the USDA, Agricultural Marketing Service for individuals to serve on the American Lamb Board. There are two positions expiring in 2012, one for a feeder and the other for a first handler. NLFA is seeking suggestions from other industry organizations, as well as individual lamb feeders to prepare a slate of nominees for consideration by the Secretary of Agriculture.

For reference, Patricia Tirrell of Michigan currently holds the feeder position and Cody Hiemke with Niman Ranches holds the first handler position.

The person appointed to the feeder position must own less than 5,000 lambs annually and may be located either east or west of the Mississippi River.

There are no requirements in regard to location or size of operation for the first handler position.

If you would like to submit the name of an individual to serve as a member of the American Lamb Board for a three-year term beginning in 2012, please contact the NLFA administrative office or a member of the NLFA Board of Directors.

Nominations must be forwarded to USDA by April 29, 2011; however, please contact NLFA by April 15 to submit your nominee and complete the required paperwork.
